VitalCog CLASS MARCH 30, 2026

March 2026

Brothers and Sisters of Sprinkler Fitters Local 696,

In our trade, we pride ourselves on having each other’s backs. Safety is our utmost concern. When we’re on a job site, we never let a member walk into a dangerous situation without proper safety equipment. We are experts at spotting physical hazards, but there is one hazard that is taking more of our brothers and sisters than any job site accident ever will: Suicide. Our industry faces some of the highest rates of suicide in the country. To combat this, we are offering a VitalCog Suicide Prevention class to our membership to, both working and retired.

What Is VitalCog?

VitalCog is a specialized training program designed specifically for the workplace-and they have a version that’s built specifically for the construction and labor trades. This isn’t a “therapy session.” It is a skills-based safety class. Just as we take CPR or OSHA training to handle physical emergencies, VitalCog gives us the “mental first aid” tools to handle a mental health crisis.

Why should you take this class?

By participating in this 90-minute class, you will learn how to:

  • Spot the warning signs: Learn the subtle changes in a coworker's behavior, talk, or mood that might indicate they’re struggling.
  • Start the conversation: Gain the confidence to ask the right questions without feeling awkward or intrusive.
  • Bridge the gap: Know exactly where to lead a brother or sister to receive professional help ensuring they don’t have to navigate it alone.
  • Break the stigma: Help us build a culture where “toughness” includes the courage to speak up when things aren’t okay.

The bottom line is that we are a brotherhood. When one of us is hurting, it affects the safety and morale of all of us. By participating in this class, it ensures that every one of us has the skills to support our brothers, sisters, and ourselves.
